Tony Crandell was selected as Citizen of the Year as a result of an anonymous nomination that reads:
“I’d like to nominate Tony Crandell for Citizen of the Year. Tony has volunteered his time to the citizens of Lamoni for decades. He has served in a number of capacities, is currently on the City Council (in his 18th year) and serves as the liaison to the Airport Commission.
Tony contributes countless hours to the operations of the airport – from meeting travelers to help with their fueling up, lounge upkeep and care, seeing to it that the weed eating and snow removal is done, that the hangar bay door openers are functioning, to the ongoing planning and development.
These contributions, while most are done out of the public view… go a long way in the service to the community over the past 50+ years.. current standard of service… and ensuring that there is a future for aviation in and out of Lamoni long into the future.
Tony has always been a visionary and has put the rubber to the road to ensure that Lamoni continues to thrive. Thank you Tony!”
The presentation was made as a surprise to Tony at City Hall on May 22nd. A small gathering of the Chamber of Commerce and the Airport Commission participated in the impromptu celebration.
Mayor Doug Foster says, “Tony has served on the Council under 5 different Mayors; I’m lucky to be one of them. Tony’s impact on Lamoni is immeasurable. We’re very fortunate to have him serving the community.”
