Lamoni’s Spirit Takes Center Stage

Lamoni’s annual Volunteer Fair returns Tuesday, September 15, from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. at the Central Park garden area, bringing together residents, local organizations, and the unmistakable spirit of Lamoni.

For its fifth year, the Volunteer Fair focuses on connections and conversations and especially the everyday people who help keep Lamoni running. The 2026 fair will emphasize what’s behind each organization - how they began, who they serve, and why volunteers are so important to their work.

“At its heart, the fair is about more than signing up to volunteer,” Mayor Douglas Foster said. “It is about learning the stories of the organizations that make Lamoni stronger, meeting the people behind that work and discovering how each person can play a part in the community.”

Visitors who collect five punches on their punch cards will receive a free grilled hamburger flipped by the Decatur County Cattlemen, chips, and a drink. Completed punch cards can then be turned in at the end of the fair for a drawing for door prizes giving attendees an extra incentive to visit and learn about participating organizations.

The Volunteer Fair is free and open to everyone. Families, students, retirees, and newcomers will find opportunities suited to a wide range of schedules, interests, and skill sets. Whether someone is interested in youth programs, environmental projects, cultural events, or public service, the fair offers a welcoming opportunity to learn more about local organizations, discover ways to get involved, and find a meaningful place to serve.

“The fair helps residents discover where their interests align with local needs, creating relationships that last long after the evening ends, “said City Administrator Barb Stuck.

Groups still wishing to participate can contact City Hall at (641) 784 - 6311 or email lamoniadmin@grm.net.
