Lamoni has recently completed a major upgrade to the community swimming pool by installing a state-of-the-art PVC pool liner provided by RenoSys, a company specializing in commercial pool renovation solutions.  The installation of the new liner was completed May 29th. Following installation, the pool was refilled and tested to confirm water quality and safety standards.

The update was initiated to resolve persistent issues such as water leaks and surface deterioration which became evident over the winter when Public Works Director Curt Shields, who is a Certified Pool Operator, conducted a routine check of the pool. During his inspection, he discovered an unusual volume of groundwater between the pool's existing liner and the concrete pool bowl. Further investigation revealed a significant leak, and subsequent testing confirmed that the original liner had reached the end of its useful life and required replacement.

The matter was brought before the Lamoni City Council which approved a motion to contract RenoSys for the installation of a new PVC membrane. The approved expenditure totaled $99,842, with an additional $8,217 both allocated from local option sales tax funds. The added cost covered the replacement of the coping that also needed replaced; which was not included in the original scope of the project to save cost but later was determined to be necessary.

The RenoSys liner system membrane is designed to provide a watertight seal. The new liner comes with a 10-year warranty.  It offers several benefits over traditional pool finishes including being non-porous, slip-resistant, and resistant to pool chemicals and UV exposure. These features contribute to the liner’s durability and help reduce annual maintenance and chemical usage by an estimated 15% to 20%. The smooth surface also simplifies cleaning and maintenance.

For many Lamoni residents, visiting the municipal pool is a routine part of summer life. It offers a reliable space to connect with neighbors, teach kids to swim, or just float in peace. Beyond recreation, the swimming pool is a vibrant hub of community life. It’s where neighbors catch up, kids make new friends, and swim instructors pass down skills that last a lifetime.

"With the recent improvements, the pool facility is expected to serve the community for many years to come," Mayor Douglas Foster said.  "It's time to enjoy the pool's escape from the day-to-day routine and a perfect way to cool down."
