Watch Lamoni’s Central Park Garden burst with community spirit on September 22 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m., as the city hosts its fourth Volunteer Fair. Nearly 50 nonprofit and government organizations will be on hand for residents to explore local volunteer opportunities.
The event comes with a built-in incentive: get an event card, visit at least five organizations, get the card punched, and trade it in for a Decatur County Cattlemen burger, drink, and chips. Nothing says "thank you for considering volunteer work" quite like a Decatur County Cattlemen burger. Attendees also get a chance to win additional prizes.
The fair serves as both an information resource and networking opportunity, allowing community members to discover how their skills and interests align with local volunteer organizational. Participants can learn about various causes and determine where they might make the most meaningful contribution.
Mayor Douglas Foster explained that the volunteer fair was initiated in response to residents expressing a desire to get more involved in their community, as well as organizations seeking additional volunteers. “We needed to find a way to publicize our many fine volunteer organizations and create positive ways for them to connect with local residents,” Foster said.
City Administrator Barb Stuck emphasized the event’s focus on meaningful conversation. “Our Lamoni volunteer organizations are looking forward to telling the community their stories,” she said. Rather than just recruitment, the fair is designed to foster worthwhile relationships and educate residents about the wide range of volunteer opportunities available.
Organizations still hoping to join the lineup can call email lamoniadmin@grm.net or call (641) 784-6311.
The Volunteer Fair is free and open to all community members. The City of Lamoni encourages residents to attend and explore ways to become more involved in the community through volunteer service.
